Kent State Athletics Sets New Fundraising Records

KENT, Ohio – Kent State Athletics and The Golden Flashes Club achieved a record-setting fundraising year during the 2025-26 academic year (fiscal year 2026), establishing new department highs in both new commitments and cash-in fundraising while also reaching an all-time best in donor participation.
"I'd like to thank the staff for the work they are doing in cultivating our alumni, donors and fans. And we are so grateful the fans are seeing our efforts and joining in our quest for excellence," said Randale L. Richmond, vice president and director of athletics. "Our student-athletes and coaches work hard to not just win in competition but to excel in the classroom and serve as role models in the community. It's so important for our continued success that our donors partner with us to elevate the Golden Flashes."
Fueled by the generosity of alumni, fans and friends, new commitments totaled $8,150,219, surpassing the previous record of $4,480,675 set in fiscal year 2016, while cash-in fundraising reached an all-time high of $3,043,866, eclipsing last year's record. Donor participation also reached new heights with a record-high 2,517 donors.
"The momentum that is growing among our Golden Flash supporters is both motivating and imperative during this time of immense change in collegiate athletics," said Leigh Greenfelder, interim vice president, philanthropy and alumni engagement. "The support of our donors is key to providing a great experience for student-athletes as well as the community who enjoys these highly competitive sporting events. Our thanks goes out to each donor, because every dollar allows us to help elevate Kent State Athletics."
The historic year reflects continued momentum for Kent State Athletics as supporters invest in the success of Golden Flashes student-athletes and programs. In addition to fundraising growth, the department posted a 42.9 percent donor retention rate, topping last year's mark of 42.5 percent, and continuing a steady upward trajectory from the mid-30s the previous two years. This indicator tracks the number of donors who made a gift in the current and previous fiscal years, an indicator of donor loyalty and understanding of the impact of their ongoing gifts.
The record-setting results come as Kent State Athletics continues to expand philanthropic opportunities across the department. Recent initiatives, including the creation of Excellence Funds, a new giving portal and an updated website for The Program, have helped drive increased engagement from alumni, donors and fans.
Building on this momentum, The Golden Flashes Club will continue to focus on growing philanthropic support that enhances the student-athlete experience and positions Kent State Athletics for long-term success.
