Flashes Fall to Bearkats in Straight Sets

ARLINGTON, Texas – Kent State fell to Sam Houston, 3-0 (12-25, 19-25, 19-25) in its final match of the weekend at the UTA Tournament on Saturday.
The Golden Flashes (2-4) struggled to slow the Bearkats' attack in the opening set, as their opponent totaled 16 kills and a .419 hitting percentage en route to a 1-0 lead.
Redshirt junior Adalynn Ginley recorded back-to-back aces as part of an early 5-0 run in the second. Kent State led 13-9 to match its largest lead of the set before losing the next eight points. The Flashes got back within a point multiple times but were unable to even the score, and the Bearkats closed the set with a 5-0 run.
Junior Vanessa Imoh caught fire in the third and totaled seven kills on eight swings, but Sam Houston pulled away late in a set that had 12 ties.
Imoh finished the match with a team-high nine kills. Senior Christina Vigil totaled 24 assists. Junior Lesley Furuta tallied 12 digs to lead the defense.
Kent State will be back in action next week and travels to Erie, Pennsylvania for the Laker Invitational.
