Serrato joined the Kent State baseball staff in the summer of 2014 to fulfill the role as volunteer assistant coach.
In his two years leading the team's offense, the Golden Flashes have gone 75-36, including a 44-win MAC Championship season in 2016. Under his guidance, Kent State's power numbers have grown. The team went from hitting 25 homeruns in 2014 to smacking 37 and 47 in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Serrato played under Flashes' Head Coach Jeff Duncan at Purdue where he was an All-Big Ten, Big-Ten All-Tournament Team and NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team selection in his final season in 2012. The utility player was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2012 and reached the Double-A level in his professional career.
"I had the privilege to coach Barrett at Purdue for three years and he was a tremendous player with an unbelievable work ethic," Duncan said. "I always thought he would be a great coach because of the work ethic and knowledge he brought to the game as a player. He was one of the best players in the Big Ten and we wouldn't have had the success we had from 2010-2012 at Purdue without Barrett Serrato. He will work with the infielders and assist with the hitters and make a tremendous impact with them as he played every infield position at the collegiate and professional levels."
Serrato earned his Bachelor's Degree from Purdue in Physical Education in 2012. During his collegiate career he was a member of various leadership and academic committees with the Boilermakers. Serrato was also drafted out of high school in Chicago, Illinois, by the Florida Marlins in 2008.
