Dan Bertolini joined the Kent State baseball program before the 2025 season after serving eight seasons as the head coach at Youngstown State from 2017-24.
A Youngstown native, Bertolini guided the Penguins to several of the most successful seasons in recent program history, including a 32-win campaign in 2021, the program’s best record in 26 years, and back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2021 and 2022. Under his leadership, Youngstown State set multiple program records, earned conference individual honors, produced MLB Draft selections, and consistently received the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award. Recognized for his player development, recruiting, and emphasis on academic success, Bertolini helped elevate the Penguins’ competitiveness both within the Horizon League and nationally.
Bertolini came to Youngstown after spending eight seasons as head coach at Mercyhurst North East, developing the program into a consistent national winner. The Saints averaged more than 29 wins over his eight seasons at the helm and won at least 30 games in four of his final five years, while being nationally ranked each of those 5 seasons. He led the Saints to the first two Region III Championships in program history. Bertolini finished with the most career wins in program history.
