Natalie Barrett joins Head Coach Kathleen Schanne’s staff as an assistant after an outstanding four-year career for the Golden Flashes.
The Glasgow, Scotland native was a three-time letterwinner (2005-06, 2008) for Kent State and garnered National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad recognition every year of her tenure (2005-08).
Barrett started 47 of the 60 games she appeared in at forward for the Flashes, tallying 17 goals and dishing out eight assists to compile 42 points. She tied her career-high for goals in a season with six in 2008 and tied for fourth on the squad with 15 points as the Flashes marched to their eighth Mid-American Conference Tournament title in school history.
Prior to coming to Kent State, Barrett was a member of the Scotland National U16 and U18 squads and captained Craigholme School to West District runner-up finishes in 2004 and ’05 while breaking the school’s record for career goals.
Barrett earned her bachelor’s degree in managerial marketing with a minor in international business from KSU and will attend graduate school in pursuit of a master’s degree in sports administration.
2007 Season
Played and started in first five games of the year before suffering season-ending injury...scored goals in four of her five games...tallied two assists...selected to 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad...finished with a goal and an assist vs. Delaware...notched a goal and an assist in victory over Ohio State...has scored seven goals in her last seven games played.
2006 sophomore Season
Started all 22 games for the Flashes...had six goals and two assists...tallied one goal and one assist during conference play...racked up three goals in two MAC Tournament games and was named to the All-Tournament Team...named to NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad and to the Academic All-MAC Team.
2005 freshman Season
In her first season with the Flashes, made an appearance in 14 games, starting eight...tallied one goal and one assist on the season....took nine shots...was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad.
Prior to Kent State
Member of the Scotland National U16 Team and U18 Squad...varsity field hockey & Craigholme School Sports Captain...captained the 2004 team that was the West District runner-up in both 2004 and 2005...holds school record for career goals...named Most Outstanding Player in her last three seasons... played for Glasgow Western Ladies Hockey Club...also participated in tennis and track & field at Craigholme School.
Personal
Born May 17, 1987...daughter of Frank and Linda Barrett...majoring in managerial marketing with a minor in international business...plans to attend graduate school at Kent State next year.
