Alan Vanderink returned to his high school position last spring and proved that he can be a valuable contributor at running back, seemingly not missing a beat...coaches are also looking for him to make more of an impact on kick returns.
2008 Sophomore Season
Started five of the 10 games in which he appeared in at wide receiver...was hampered by shoulder problems...caught nine passes for 164 yards and a touchdown...pulled in an 81-yard touchdown at Louisiana-Lafayette Sept. 20 - the fifth-longest reception in school history...made three receptions for 51 yards Sept. 13 against Delaware State.
2007 Freshman Season
Had a solid first season at wide receiver and kick returner...appeared in all 12 games, catching 13 passes for 98 yards...scored his first collegiate touchdown with a one-yard touchdown grab against Northern Illinois Nov. 10...caught four passes for 27 yards against the Huskies, both career highs...returned 12 kickoffs for 268 yards, an average of 22.3 yards per return...had a season long 45-yard return at Ohio Sept. 29...sixth on the team with 359 all-purpose yards...one of nine true freshman to earn a letter.
Prior to Kent State
Gained a total of 3,826 yards with 51 touchdowns in three years at Crestwood High School...totaled 2,047 yards on 197 carries with 24 touchdowns as a senior...named first-team All-Ohio, All-Northeast Inland District, and All-Portage Trail Conference in 2006...also selected as the Northeast Inland District Division III Offensive, Region 6, and Crestwood MVP that same season...named CHS Best Offensive Back and PTC Offensive Co-MVP in 2006...selected as the Cleveland Touchdown Club and Akron Touchdown Club Portage County Player of the Year as senior...served as a team captain as both a junior and senior for the Red Devils...set school records for most yards rushing in a season (2,047) and a career (3,826) as well as most touchdowns scored in a season (24) and a career (51)...CHS was a combined 20-10 during his three seasons on the varsity...also lettered in basketball, baseball, and track and field....holds the CHS boys basketball record for most assists in a game (14)...also set school records in the 100 meters (10.8) and 200 meters (21.8) and was a member of the Red Devils' record-setting 4 x 200 relay team.

Born Dec. 12, 1988...son of Steven and Dana Vanderink...has an older sister, Brittany, who recently concluded her career on the Ohio State softball team where she was a three-time NFCA All-Great Lakes Region selection...is a cousin of Bryan Wagner, who is a freshman tight end for the Flashes...majoring in physical education.
