A solid contributor the past three seasons, Anthony Mirando moves to the top spot in the depth chart this fall at strong side linebacker...an impressive physical specimen, the coaches are looking for him to have an outstanding senior year.
2008 Junior Season
Started three of the 12 games in which he appeared in at linebacker...piled up career-high 27 tackles and recovered two fumbles...made first career start on Oct. 11 vs. Ohio...made six tackles at Miami Oct. 25 and recovered two fumbles...notched four stops at both Ball State (Sept. 27) and Bowling Green (Nov. 1)...received the Jack Lambert Award as the defensive player who showed the biggest improvement in spring practice.
2007 Sophomore Season
Appeared in all 12 games as a reserve linebacker...recorded 22 tackles, 13 solo...made a season-high three tackles on four occasions.
2006 Freshman Season
Played in 11 of Kent State's games at linebacker...collected 11 tackles; five of them by himself...teamed up with Sam Frist to notch a sack against Bowling Green on Sept. 23, a loss of four yards...one of eight true freshmen to earn a varsity letter.
Prior to Kent State
Was named Ashtabula County Defensive Player of the Year as a senior linebacker at Jefferson Area High School...also earned first-team all-county, all-conference, all-region and honorable mention all-state accolades in 2005...earned first-team all-conference and all-county honors as a punter...selected to play in North-South All-Star Game...second-team All-Ohio, first-team all-conference and all-county as a junior...also received all-county and all-conference honors as a sophomore (second teams) and freshman (honorable mention)...recorded 133 total tackles as a senior, 127 in only eight games as a junior, 91 as a sophomore and 86 as a freshman...recorded six career interceptions...21 tackles for loss as a senior, including 5.5 sacks...helped Falcons to three NEC championships...was coached by Jim Henson.
