Kody Morgan joined Kent State in spring 2023 as the safeties coach and co-special teams coordinator. He was elevated to defensive coordinator ahead of the 2024 season.
In 2024, the Golden Flashes saw defensive back Josh Baka ranked 74th in the nation in total tackles per game, averaging 7.5, which was also 10th in the MAC.
In his first season with the Flashes, Morgan worked with the special teams and safeties. During this season, the Flashes had one of the most accurate kickers in the nation, Andrew Glass, ranked 11th in the nation, making 88.2% of his field goals. Glass also earned All-MAC Second Team honors. The Flashes also had one of the best returners in the nation, Xavier Williams, ranked 28th, averaging 22.7 yards per return.Â
Morgan comes to Kent State from North Dakota State, where he was the cornerbacks coach from 2018-21 before serving as the safeties coach and special teams coordinator in 2022. Before joining the Bison’s coaching staff, he spent two seasons as the offensive quality control assistant. Morgan was a part of four NCAA Division-I FCS championships with the Bison.
Before his time in Fargo, Morgan was at Wisconsin-Stout, where he worked as cornerbacks coach in 2014 and the defensive line coach in 2015 while also working with the kickoff and punt units. He started coaching at the University of Mary in 2013, where he worked as a graduate assistant.
A four-year starting cornerback from 2008 to 2011 at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Morgan was part of a conference championship team in 2008. He stayed on as a student assistant coach in 2012.
Morgan earned a bachelor’s degree in math education from UW-Stevens Point in 2012 and completed a master’s degree in education at UMary in 2014.
