Will Windham joined Kent State in January of 2018 and will embark on his second season with the Golden Flashes. He shifted to the safeties coach this year after serving as inside linebackers coach a year ago.
Windham helped the Golden Flashes secure their first bowl win in program history with a 51-41 victory over Utah State in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl.
In 2018 Matt Bahr tied for 11th in the Mid-American Conference with 91 total tackles and led the team with 7.5 tackles for loss. The defense held two opponents under 100 rushing yards for the first time since 2016.
Windham spent the previous two seasons as a defensive quality control coach at Georgia. In 2017, he was a part of a Bulldogs’ staff that won an SEC Championship and advanced to the College Football Playoff national championship game. Prior to the playoff, the Georgia defense held 10-of-13 opponents to 14 points or less. In 2016, the Bulldogs won eight games, including the Liberty Bowl.
In 2015, Windham served as defensive line coach at Davidson.
Prior to Davidson, Windham spent one season at Penn State as a defensive quality control coach for head coach James Franklin.
Windham got his start in collegiate coaching at his alma mater, Mississippi State, as a defensive graduate assistant for head coach Dan Mullen in 2011. He was part of two bowl victories in the 2011 Music City Bowl and the 2013 Liberty Bowl.
Windham’s coaching career began at the high school level from 2009-11, at Saint Stanislaus Prep in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi where he was the defensive line coach and helped the Rocks to a Class 4A State Championship in 2009.
A 2007 graduate of Mississippi State, Windham earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and later earned a master’s degree in 2012 teaching and coaching.
