Monte Simmons heads into the spring atop the depth chart at buck linebacker, but he will not participate due to a quadriceps injury.
Career
Ranks fourth in school annals with 16.0 career sacks…enters his senior season nine sacks shy of Justin Parrish’s school record of 25.0.
2009 Junior Season
Earned second-team All-MAC accolades…led the team with eight sacks (T-33rd nationally) and 16 tackles for loss (T-21st), ranking third and second, respectively, in the MAC…made 56 total tackles including 33 solo…opened the season with five tackles including 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles against Coastal Carolina Sept. 3…had his best game against Western Michigan with five tackles and three sacks Oct. 31 to earn MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors…had a career-high nine tackles including 2.5 for loss in the season finale versus Buffalo Nov. 27…helped anchor the defensive line with 12 games played and seven starts.
2008 Sophomore Season
Tied for second on the team in sacks with 4.5… earned playing time in all 12 contests with two starts at defensive end…recorded two sacks at Miami Oct. 25…totaled six tackles at Bowling Green Nov. 1…accumulated five tackles, four of them solo, and a sack on Sept. 13 against Delaware State…posted four tackles and a sack at Iowa State Sept. 6…forced a fumble at Buffalo Nov. 28…recovered a fumble at Louisiana-Lafayette Sept. 20.
2007 Freshman Season
True freshman made an immediate impact at his defensive line position…appeared in all 12 games, getting the start in the last two contests at Temple Nov. 17 and versus Buffalo Nov. 24…recorded 19 tackles, eight solo…had 3.5 sacks for 21 yards lost, and 5.5 TFL for 24 yards lost…was named the team’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in addition to earning the Jack Lambert Cup as the Most Improved Defensive Player at the conclusion of spring practice…had two sacks and a forced fumble against Akron Sept. 22…added a sack against the Owls for a loss of 10 yards…recorded a career-high four stops in back-to-back games at Northern Illinois (Nov. 10) and Temple (Nov. 17)…one of only nine true freshmen to earn a varsity letter.
Prior to Kent State
Named first-team all-conference as a senior at Woodland Hills…was nominated to play in the Big 33 game…earned three varsity letters in both football and track and field.
