Kent State University men's basketball coach Rob Senderoff named Brian Barnes Director of Basketball Operations in September 2018. He had served as the video coordinator and special assistant to the director of operations since September of 2017 and started his Kent State career as a graduate assistant in July of 2015
In his six seasons with the team, Barnes has served in a variety of roles with the team including team's lead on video analysis, while assisting in program operations. As director of operations, Barnes coordinates all of the travel and logistics for the Kent State men's basketball program.
In Barnes' time with Kent State, he has helped the Golden Flashes win 115 games and hold a .605 winning percentage. Barnes was integral to the staff during the run to the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championship and the program's return to the NCAA Tournament.
Barnes received his undergraduate degree in sport management from Central Michigan in 2015,and earned his graduate degree in 2017 from Kent State. While at CMU, he helped guide the Chippewas to their first MAC regular-season championship in 12 seasons.
