Tom Ward is entering his second season as an assistant coach for Kent State, working primarily with the gymnasts on vault, bars and floor with head coach Brice Biggin.
In his first season with the Golden Flashes in 2008-09, he helped guide the team to one of its most successful teams in school history. The team went a perfect 6-0 in Mid-American Conference meets and won its second consecutive championship meet (11th overall). At the championships, Lydia Barett won her second individual conference championships on floor (bars champion, 2008) while Laci Hendress also won on floor. Ward was also instrumental in the improvement on bars by Christina Lenny, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in Lincoln, Neb. in the all-around.
Before joining the Kent State gymnastics coaching staff in the summer of 2008, Ward was a private club coach/owner in Ohio and Florida for 17 years.
Coach Ward and his wife of 11 years, Tonya, reside in Kent with their 3-year old daughter Kendra.
