Wrestling Finishes 1-2 at Kent State Duals

KENT, Ohio -- The Kent State University wrestling team opened the dual-meet portion of its schedule by winning one match and losing two others Sunday (Dec. 7) in its own Kent State Duals at Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
The Golden Flashes (1-2, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) lost their first match to the University at Buffalo 21-13 in their MAC opener and fell to the University of Findlay 21-16 before coming back to defeat Mercyhurst College 22-16 in the final match.
Senior co-captains Jared Opfer (Sandusky, Ohio/St. Marys Central Catholic) and Mike Tolar (Parma, Ohio/Lakewood St. Edward) each won all three of their matches, as did sophomore Alex Camargo (Brook Park, Ohio/Berea). Tolar had two major decisions at 157 pounds and a third at 165, while Opfer and Camargo went 3-0 at 133 and 184 pounds, respectively.
In other action in the meet, Buffalo defeated Mount Union College 39-6 and Mercyhurst beat the Purple Raiders 36-0.
Kent State next will be in action Dec. 14 at the Clarion (Pa.) Duals against Lock Haven University, the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown and Ohio State University. The Flashes next home match is Jan. 4 against local rival Cleveland State University.
