Track And Field Wraps Up Day Two Of The Golden Flash Gala

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State University mens and womens track & field teams concluded the Golden Flash Gala today, Saturday Dec. 11, at the KSU Field House.
The men had a solid day winning three events while recording four top-three finishes. The sprinting duo of Marc Johnson (So., Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) and Otis Jordan (Sr., Detroit, Mich./Bishop Gallagher) led way winning the 60 meters (6.92) and the 200 meters (21.90), respectively. Jordan also placed third in the 60 with a mark of 6.92.
Reigning indoor All-America Mike Inge (Jr., Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) kicked off his season in familiar fashion winning the 1000 meters in 2:26.22, just two seconds off the school record. Inge's former high-school teammate Ray Armstrong (So., Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) also stood out in the middle-distance events taking third in the mile (4:16.26).
In the field, Phil Rickaby (Jr., N.S.W., Australia/Winmalee) led the jumpers finishing second in the long jump (22-7.75). Brent Shelby (Jr., Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) concluded a strong weekend taking third in the shot put with a indoor-best throw of 57-0.25. Shelbys throw ranks him 10th on the all-time indoor list.
On the womens side, the 4x400-meter relay of Christelle Buholzer (Jr., Chardon, Ohio/Ohio State), Erin Corrigan (Sr., Middleburg Hts., Ohio/Cuyahoga C.C.), Stephanie Hunt (So., Alliance, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Gabriela Plocka (So., Lodz, Poland/Handlu Prawa) won the lone title of the day with a mark of 3:51.20. Buholzer and Corrigan also placed fourth in the 400 meters (59.24) and the 800 meters (2:25.41), respectively.
Breann Smith (Sr., Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) led the throwers, placing second in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 49-6.50, which ranks fifth on the all-time KSU list. Jackie Rodgers (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) finished second in the pole vault with a leap of 11-11.75 and Megan Bair (So., Canton, Ohio/Canton South) took third in the high jump (5-4.25).
Both squads return to action Friday, Jan. 14, when the Golden Flashes host the Black Squirrel Classic at the KSU Field House.
