Men, Women Finish Third At MAC Indoor Championships

Junior Colleen Ramharak (Toronto, Ontario/Oakwood C.I.) and sophomore Phil Rickaby (N.S.W., Australia/Winmalee) led the Golden Flashes as each won the triple jump. Ramharak, the womens lone individual winner, took the triple jump with a school-record jump of 42-6.25, which is the 18th-best jump in the nation and provisionally qualified her for the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships. Rickaby capped off his first season as a Golden Flash in tremendous fashion winning the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 49-2.50, setting the fourth-best mark in indoor-school history.
Junior Mike Inge (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) won Kent States only other individual title claiming the 800 meters in MAC-meet record 1:49.80. Inge also medeled in the in the 400 meters (49.23) taking sixth.
Freshman Marc Johnson (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) and senior Otis Jordan (Detroit, Mich./Bishop Gallagher) led the mens sprinters. Johnson took second in the 60 meters (6.77) and Jordan collected a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 60 (6.87) and the 200 (22.0, hand timed). In the 60-meter hurdles, returning MAC champ junior Keith Roberts (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) took second with a provisional NCAA time of 7.94, tying his season-best.
Rounding out the top performers for the men were sophomore Brent Shelby (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake), who took third in the shot put with a heave of 54-5.25 and junior Josh Paull (Tiffin, Ohio/University of Toledo), who cleared 6-8.25 placing fourth in the high jump.
Other scorers for the men were freshman Ray Armstrong (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) in the 800 (sixth), senior Peter Weisz (Tatabanya, Hungary/Veszprem) in the mile (5th), junior Pete Reynolds (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) in the pole vault (sixth), Jared Vogler (Williamsville, N.Y./Sweet Home) in the 60-meter hurdles (sixth), freshman Chad Clemons (Marblehead, Ohio/Danbury) in the high jump (eighth) and junior Adrian Ghioroaie (Bucharest, Romania/University of Texas El-Paso) in the triple jump (fifth).
On the women's side, senior Stephanie Snyder (Randolph, N.J./Randolph made her final MAC indoor meet one to remember as she paced the women on the track, finishing second in the 3000 meters in a school-record 9:46.47 and third in the mile with a personal-best 4:55.18, good for third on the all-time indoor list. Earlier in the year, Snyder also set the school record in the 5000 meters (17:15.84). Also standing out for the Golden Flashes in the mile was junior Jeanna Fascione (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton), who took second in 4:54.34.
Junior Jennifer Fascione (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) led a Kent State trio in the 800 meters finishing 4th in 2:14.73 while senior Kelly Green (Newbury, Ohio/Burton Berkshire) and junior Erin Corrigan (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Cuyahoga C.C.) took sixth (2:15.60) and eighth (2:18.67), respectively.
Freshman Gabriela Plocka (Lodz, Poland/Handlu Prawa) paced the sprinters finishing third in the 400 meters (56.06) and sixth in the 200 meters (25.34).
Junior Breann Smith (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) was sixth in the shot put (45-9.25) and freshman Stephanie Hunt (Alliance, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) also finished sixth in the 400 (56.63)to round out the scorers on the womens side.
Both Kent State teams will be back in action next weekend as the Golden Flashes travel to the University of Notre Dame to take part in the annual Last Chance Meet March 5-6, which will give athletes from both squads one last opportunity to qualify for the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships March 12-13.
