Weisz Qualifies For The NCAA Championships In The Steeplechase

KENT, Ohio - Senior Peter Weisz (Tatabanya, Hungary/Veszprem) led the KSU charges on the second day of the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships in Baton Rouge, La., placing fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (8:59.29) and qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the second straight year.
The 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Marc Johnson (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown), senior Otis Jordan (Detroit, Mich./Bishop Gallagher), junior Marc Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and junior Adrian Ghioroaie (Bucharest, Romania/UTEP) saw their dreams of a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships come to an end when they were disqualified due to a false start.
Ghioroaie also competing in the triple jump finished 12th with a season-best jump of 51-1.50.
Also in the field sophomore Brent Shelby (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) took 11th in the discus (172-4).
Peter Weisz is the lone male athlete to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships June 9-12 in Austin, Texas.
