Men's Golf Tied with Toledo for First Round Lead at MAC Championships

WESTERVILLE, Ohio The Kent State University mens golf team shares the first round lead at the 2004 Mid-American Conference Mens Golf Championships with Toledo, as each team shot two-over 290 at Medallion Club today. The Golden Flashes, looking to defend their MAC title from 2003, are led by junior Peter Laws (Mississauga, Ontario/Our Lady of Mount Carmel), who is tied for second after shooting a 1-under 71.
The MAC Championships are being played at Medallion Club, a par-72, 6,802-yard layout. The second and third rounds of the 72-hole event will be played tomorrow, May 7, beginning at 8 a.m. The final round is also scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 8.
The Golden Flashes have four players among the top 17 in the tournament, led by Laws, who shot KSUs low back-nine score of 35. sophomore Ryan Yip (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) and freshman Marc Bourgeois (Dieppe, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin) each shot even-par 72s in todays round and are tied for fourth. Yip went 34-38 today, while Bourgeois scorched the front side in five-under 33, then came in with 39. Junior Steve Lohmeyer (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) shot 37-38=75 today and is tied for 17th.
Senior Chris Miller (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) rounds out the Kent State five tied for 28th after firing a 77.
The Golden Flashes are in search of their 15th MAC championship and seventh in the last eight years.
