Kent States 288 was the 10th best round posted by any team in the tournament in the second round, the top round being a 4-under 276 fired by Pepperdine.
Sophomore Ryan Yip (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) leads the Golden Flashes in a tie for 19th place at 1-over par for the tournament. He shot a 70 today to go along with a first-round 71, for a 141 total. He is five shots off the lead, which is shared by Californias Jeff Hood, Arizonas Chris Nellen and Matt Wells of Kentucky at 4-under.
California leads the tournament at 8-over 568 through two rounds.
"Im very pleased with todays round," head coach Herb Page said. "We didnt pick up a lot of spots on the leaderboard, but we picked up shots that moved us into the pack. I think we still have our best round ahead of us and if we do that were going to have a real chance. But if we dont, were not going to make the cut. Its that simple."
The Golden Flashes were 3-over through 12 holes today, but gave back five shots in the final seven holes. "We hung around four-, five-, six-over par and never really made a run at it," Page said. "But we couldnt get our putters going, which would have really gotten us in the hunt."
For the second straight day, Yip got his round going halfway through the opening nine. After starting 3-over through six holes, Yips eagle chip at 16 (KSU started todays round on the 10th hole) hit the pin and lipped out. He went on to make birdie. Yip followed that up with a birdies at 18th, 2nd and 4th holes before a bogey at the 6th left him at level-par 70.
Junior Peter Laws (Mississauga, Ontario/Our Lady of Mount Carmel) had three birdies and 11 pars on his round, which included nearly holing his tee shot at the par-3 11th hole. He made a bogey at the last hole to push him to 1-over. He is currently at 4-over 144, which ties him for 43rd.
Freshman Marc Bourgeois (Dieppe, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin) fired a 2-over 72 today to move from 108th to 75th place through two rounds at 7-over. He posted a pair of birdies on his round. Senior Chris Miller (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) and junior Steve Lohmeyer (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) shot matching 75s in the second round. Lohmeyer is currently tied for 112th at +10, while Miller is tied for 133rd at +12. Miller was 7-over in his round, but played the back nine in 1-under 34 to get in at 5-over. Lohmeyer birdied each of the par-5s, but also had a pair of double bogies in his round.

The Golden Flashes will play tomorrows third round with New Mexico and Southern California, looking to get into the top-15 cutline, which is currently at +20.
"Its so close with 11 shots separating 15 teams in the middle of the pack," Page said. "There are so many great teams here, but the golf course is proving to be the winner. We all came in here thinking scores would be lower, but The Cascades has turned out to be a real championship test."
The NCAA Championships are being played at The Homestead Resorts Cascades Golf Course, a 6,679-yard, par-70 track. Today is the second of four rounds, with a cut on Thursday after 54 holes that will pare the field down to 15 teams. The third round is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m., tomorrow, June 3, with KSU teeing off at 12:18 p.m. The final round starts Friday, June 4, at 8 a.m.
