Men's Golf Extends Lead at Central Regional Preview

NOTRE DAME, Ind. The Kent State University mens golf team extended its lead after the second round at the Notre Dame Invitational/Central Regional Preview, leading by 11 shots over a strong field. The Golden Flashes shot a team total of 293 (+13) in todays (Sept. 18) second round, recording the lowest team total for the second straight round.
Golden Flashes also are atop the individual leaderboard as senior Steve Lohmeyer and junior Ryan Yip are currently 1-2 among the individuals. Lohmeyer is 1-under par through two rounds, adding a 70 in the second round to go with a first-round 69. Yip has carded rounds of 68-72 and is at even-par 140 through two rounds, one shot in back of Lohmeyer.
Todays second round and the final round on Sunday are played at Warren Golf Course, a par-70, 7,011-yard track. Notre Dame will host the 2005 NCAA Central Regional at Warren Golf Course in May 2005.
The field was not able to gain ground on the Golden Flashes today, as Kent State extended its lead from seven strokes to 11 shots.
Sophomore Tommy Wiegand, playing in his first event as a Golden Flash, is tied for 14th place after rounds of 73-75=148 (+8). Sophomore Marc Bourgeois, making his first start this season for Kent State after playing last weekend in the Bell Canadian Open, and senior Peter Laws round out the Kent State five tied for 43rd at 14-over.
The final round of the tournament begins tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
