Men's Track Wins The Doug Raymond Invitational

KENT, Ohio - Led by Mike Inges (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) impressive victory in the 800 meters the Kent State mens track and field team rolled to a convincing victory at the Doug Raymond Invitational Saturday, Feb. 5, at the KSU Field House.
The men won the six-team event with 153 points. Eastern Michigan University was second with 120 points followed by Wichita State University (83 points), Ohio State University (57), Grand Valley State University (46 points) and Bucknell University (34 points).
Inge captured the 800 meters in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:48.05. Finishing second was Ray Armstrong (So., Elyria, Ohio/Elyria), who clocked a personal-best 1:50.96 and moved up to second place on the KSU all-time indoor list.
The Golden Flashes continued their dominance in the middle distance events as Ofer Barniv (Sr., Kent, Ohio/Roosevelt) and James Sjostrom (Sr., Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) went one-two in the mile. Barniv won in 4:09.39 while Sjostrom finished second in 4:11.06.
For the second straight meet Marc Johnson (So., Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) and Otis Jordan (Sr., Detroit, Mich./Bishop Gallagher) sprinted to victories in the 60 meters and 200 meters, respectively. Johnson won the 60 in 6.84 while Jordan took the 200 with a mark of 21.84. Jordan also placed second in the 60 (6.86).
Phil Rickaby (Jr., N.S.W., Australia/Winmalee) was a standout in the field events winning the long jump with a leap of 23-11, which is the longest in the MAC this season. Rickaby also finished second in the 200 (22.19).
Brent Shelby (Jr., Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) led the throwers placing second in the shot put (56-0.50) and fourth in the weight throw (59-2.75). Jaroslaw Zakrzewski (Fr., Gdansk, Poland) rounded out the top performers taking second in the weight throw with a mark of 61-11.50.
The men completed their dominant performance by winning the distance medley relay and return to action next weekend at the Sykes-Sabock Invitational (Feb. 11-12) in State College, Pa.
