Page Awarded Steven and Patti Cress Scholarship
Kent State University freshman golfer Jarrod Page (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) has been awarded the Steven and Patty Cress Scholarship, Director of Golf Herb Page announced recently.
Page has competed in two tournaments during his first season at Kent State, earning a 78.40 average. He shot a season-low 76 at the Inverness Intercollegiate, earning a spot in the lineup in his first collegiate tournament.
Page, the son of Debbie and Mark Page, is a marketing major.
The Steven and Patty Cress Scholarship is one of 13 endowed scholarships that provide educational opportunities for the Kent State mens golf team. Mr. Cress, who is president and C.E.O. of FINCOM, and a 1972 Kent State graduate, has donated this endowed scholarship.
Lohmeyer Awarded Lou Telerico Scholarship
Kent State University senior golfer Steve Lohmeyer (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) has been awarded the Lou Telerico Scholarship, Director of Golf Herb Page announced recently.
A 2001-02 All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) Second-Team selection and the 2002 MAC Freshman of the Year, Lohmeyer has played in six tournaments this season, posting a 74.89 stroke average, with a low round of 69 coming at the Notre Dame Invitational.
Lohmeyer, the son of Jen and Dan Lohmeyer, is majoring in leisure studies/sport management.
The Lou Telerico Scholarship is one of 13 endowed scholarships that provide educational opportunities for the Kent State mens golf team. Mr. Telerico, who is the Senoir Vice President of Merrill Lynch, is a 1966 Kent State Graduate. He sponsors the Lou Telerico Pro-Am Classic each year, which has raised more then $400,000 for the mens golf program since its inception in 1994.
Yip Awarded Dennis E. Rango Scholarship
Kent State University senior golfer Ryan Yip (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) has been awarded the Dennis E. Rango Scholarship, Director of Golf Herb Page announced recently.
Yip, a two-time All-MAC First Team performer and the 2003 MAC Freshman of the Year, has competed in all eight tournaments this season. He is second on the team with a 72.70 stroke average and shot a season-low 68 in the opening round of the Notre Dame Invitational, which Yip won for his second career individual tournament championship.
Yip, the son of Elaine and Jim Yip, is currently majoring in leisure studies/sport management.
The Dennis E. Rango Scholarship is one of 13 endowed scholarships that provide educational opportunities for the Kent State mens golf team. Mr. Rango, who was on the Kent State varsity golf team (73) and is currently an insurance agent at State Farm, sponsors the Rango Invitational which has donated nearly $300,000 to the Kent State golf program.
Bourgeois Awarded Richard C. Rango Scholarship
Kent State University sophomore golfer Marc Bourgeois (Dieppe, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin) has been awarded the Richard C. Rango Scholarship, Director of Golf Herb Page announced recently.
Bourgeois, the 2004 MAC Freshman of the Year and a All-MAC Second Team honoree last year, has played in three tournaments in 2004-05, owning a 75.75 stroke average with a season-low round of 70 coming at the Windon Memorial Classic.
Bourgeois, the son of Maria and Rheal Bourgeois, is majoring in leisure studies/sport management.
The Richard C. Rango Scholarship is one of 13 endowed scholarships that provide educational opportunities for the Kent State mens golf team. Mr. Rango, was a former baseball standout at Kent State (70) and is currently an insurance agent at State Farm, sponsors the Rango Invitational which has donated nearly $300,000 to the Kent State golf program.
Wiegand Awarded Chuck and Judy Messina Scholarship
Kent State University redshirt freshman golfer Tommy Wiegand (Avon Lake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) has been awarded the Chuck and Judy Messina Scholarship, Director of Golf Herb Page announced recently.
Wiegand has played in four tournaments in his first year of competition, posting a top 20 finish at the Notre Dame Invitational and a 74.42 stroke average overall.
Wiegand, the son of Jan and Tom Wiegand, is majoring in accounting.
The Chuck and Judy Messina Scholarship is one of 13 endowed scholarships that provide educational opportunities for the Kent State mens golf team. Mr. Messina, who is a 1966 Kent State graduate and the president and C.E.O. of T.H.E.M. of Ohio Incorporated, has donated this endowed scholarship.
Hurtuk Awarded Herb Kane Scholarship
Kent State University senior golfer Joe Hurtuk (Bedford, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) has been awarded the Herb Kane Scholarship, Director of Golf Herb Page announced recently.
A 2002-03 first team All-MAC selection, Hurtuk has played in seven of the eight tournaments this year, compiling a stroke average of 74.15. He has a season-low round of 70 and tied for 19th at the Windom Memorial Classic.
Hurtuk, the son of Sandi and Joe Hurtuk, is a leisure studies/sport management major.
The Herb Kane Scholarship is one of 13 endowed scholarships that provide educational opportunities for the Kent State mens golf team. Mr. Kane, a 1947 Kent State graduate who was a prominent attorney in Ravenna, donated this scholarship to the Kent State golf team.
Laws Awarded Ben and Candace Curtis Scholarship
Kent State University senior golfer Peter Laws (Mississauga, Ontario/Our Lady of Mount Carmel) has been awarded the first-ever Ben and Candice Curtis Scholarship, Director of Golf Herb Page announced recently.
Laws has been Kent States top performer since his sophomore season, twice earning All-MAC First Team honors. He has played in all eight tournaments this year and leads the team with a 72.30 scoring average. On the year, he has three top 10 finishes, including a pair of runner-up finishes.
Laws, the son of Linda Pickard and Richard Laws, majors in physical education/exercise specialist.
The Ben and Candace Curtis Scholarship is one of 13 endowed scholarships that provide educational opportunities for the Kent State mens golf team. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis are each former Kent State golfers. Mr. Curtis was the 2003 British Open Champion and is currently a touring professional on the PGA Tour. While at Kent State, Mr. Curtis was a three-time All-American, the MAC medalist in 2000 and helped lead Kent State to four straight MAC Championships.
