Men's Track & Field Wins Black Squirrel Classic

KENT, Ohio -- The Kent State University men's track and field team won the Black Squirrel Classic at the KSU Fieldhouse today (Jan. 14), edging Maryland-Eastern Shore by a point, 114-113. Buffalo was third with 104.5 points.
The Kent State women's track and field team placed fourth in the women's competition, with 74.75 points as Bucknell claimed the women's crown with 113.75 points.
The men's team received first place finsihes from five individuals. Tony Jordanek won the 800 meters (1:53.86), Bouke Onstenk claimed the mile (4:18.08), Seth Hutchinson took the 3,000 (8:40.18), Brent Shelby won the shot put (59-3.5) and Andy Nicholas won the weight throw (62-8).
Shelby also placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 60-5.75. Shamel finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6-5.5.
The women had a pair of individual champions as Jackie Rodgers won the pole vault (12-11.5) and LaVania Henderson won the shot put (46-6.75).
Megan Bair reached a height of 5-4.25 for a second place in the high jump. Kelly Braden claimed a second place in the weight throw with a heave of 58-4.75.
Both the men's and women's track & field teams will be action Friday, Jan. 20 hosting Akron in a dual meet at the KSU Fieldhouse.
