Men's Golf Set to Face Challenging Field at Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges Intercollegiate

KENT, Ohio Playing against its most challenging field to date this season, the Kent State University men's golf team is one of 12 teams ranked in the top 50 competing at the ninth annual Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges Intercollegiate, hosted by East Tennessee State University this weekend (Oct. 14-15). The first two rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the final round set for 8 a.m. Sunday.
• Kent State is ranked 43rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index ratings (Oct. 8). KSU also is listed among teams receiving votes in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA)/Bridgestone Coaches Poll (Sept. 28).
• Twelve of the 15 teams in the field are ranked in the Golfweek top 50 ratings, including No. 1 Alabama. Three others- Tennessee, host ETSU and NC State- are ranked in the top 15.
• The Golden Flashes tied for fourth place their last time out at the Windon Memorial Classic at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. The Flashes posted scores of 297-301-302--900 (+48), three shots behind third-place finisher Illinois and tied with Michigan State and Colorado.
• Individually, the Flashes had two top 10 finishers as seniors David Markle and Marc Bourgeois tied for ninth place at plus-9 222.
• Markle was playing in his first tournament of the season at the Windon Memorial, and his first event since the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate Apr. 7-8, 2006.
• Bourgeois recorded his second-straight top 10 finish at the Windon Memorial. He posted a career-best second-place finish with an 11-under 205 at the Mattaponi Springs Shootout Sept. 25-26.
• At the 2005 Bank of Tennessee at The Ridges, Kent State placed seventh of 15 teams. Ryan Yip was the Flashes' top finisher, tying for 10th at 1-over 217.
• Also at the 2005 BOT, Ben Moser tied for 22nd (+5, 221), Jarrod Page and Tom Ballinger tied for 35th (+8, 224) and Marc Bourgeois was one shot back, tied for 43rd (+9, 225).
• There are 11 teams returning to the field from last year's BOT event. Individually, ETSU's Rhys Davies returns to defend his individual title.
• After using the same lineup for the first two tournaments of the fall, Kent State will use a different five for the second week in a row. The Golden Flashes used nine different lineups in 12 tournaments last season.
• The new face in the Kent State lineup this week belongs to freshman David Ludlow. The Burton, Ohio-native makes his first collegiate start this at the BOT.
• KSU has posted a top 10 finish in seven of its last eight tournaments dating back to last season.
• The Flashes wrap up the fall portion if their schedule Oct. 23-24 at The Club Glove Invitational in Somis, Calif.
