Men's Track and Field Place Fourth at Sykes-Sabcock Challenge

STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania -- The Kent State University mens track and field team was fourth at the conclusion of the Sykes-Sabcock Challenge, Saturday, Feb. 11. Host Penn State took first with 125 points, Michigan second with 117.50 points and Cornell, third, with 72.50 points.
Leading in the field for the Golden Flashes in the shot put was senior Brent Shelby who took first in the event for the sixth time this season, setting a new personal record with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 60-7.25. The distance, for Shelby, is also a KSU season high in the event.
On the track, junior Ray Armstrong (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) finished sixth in the 800-meter run clocking a time of 1:51.77. The time is the best of the season for KSU in the event. In the mile, freshman Tony Jordanek (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington) and junior Jesse Armbruster took fourth and sixth, respectively. Jordaneks time of 4:12.72 is a personal record (4:17.65, Jan. 20, 2006) as well as a KSU season best. Armbrusters time of 4:14.21 improved his personal record as well (4:17.08, Jan. 28, 2006). The mens 4x400-meter relay team gained points with a sixth-place finish.
The Golden Flashes return home Saturday, Feb. 18, for the Kent State Tune-Up at the KSU Fieldhouse where they will prepare for the MAC Championships the following weekend (Feb. 24-5).
