Throwers Continue Success in Day Two of Fred Hardy Invitational

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. The Kent State University mens and womens track and field throwers remained steady in the second day of competition, March 25, at the Fred Hardy Invitational. Of the six Golden Flashes taking part in the events, there were three first-place finishes, two University of Richmond school records broken and one NCAA regional qualifying time met.
Freshman Bekah Stoltz (Saugerties, N.Y./Columbia Falls) was impressive in her first collegiate outdoor meet, taking first in both the discus and javelin. In the discus, Stoltz threw for a distance of 145-6, breaking the University of Richmond school record of 137-11 that was set in 2001. Stoltz had a toss of 149-5 in the javelin, her first-ever NCAA regional qualifying mark (142-6).
Sophomore LeVania Henderson (Westland, Mich./Livonia Churchill), after taking first yesterday in the shot put, was second in the discus with a throw of 145-1. Junior Tana Walther (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) was fourth in the discus with 128-11 and Nikki Brandstadter (Jr., Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) was fifth in the javelin with a toss of 128-11.
For the men, senior Brent Shelby (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake), who took first in the shot put event yesterday, finished first in the discus. With a throw of 163-3, he set a new University of Richmond school record, surpassing the 155-5 mark set in 2000. In the same event, sophomore Jaroslaw Zakrzewski (Gdansk, Poland), the invitationals hammer throw champion, was fourth with a distance of 149-8.
Kent State track and field will resume next Saturday, April 1, when they travel to State College, Pa., for the Jim Thorpe Invitational.
