Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at Liz Murphey Collegiate

ATHENS, Ga. The Kent State University women's golf team finished in fifth place today (March 26) at the highly competitive Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The Golden Flashes fired a final round team total of 307 to finish at 923.
The Golden Flashes were one of eight teams in the top 25 of the latest NGCA Coaches Poll that were in the field. Kent State finished in front of three, including ninth-ranked Arkansas.
Host Georgia claimed the team championship with a total of 903 in three rounds, bettering Wake Forest by two strokes. Florida State's Caroline Westrup won the individual crown by one shot, shooting a 5-over 221.
The 34th Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic was held at the University of Georgia Golf Course, a par-72, 6,228-yard layout.
Sophomore Tara Delaney led way for Kent State, earning her fifth top-20 finish of the season, placing 20th after totaling a 14-over 230. Delaney carded 76-78-76 in three rounds. Her sister, junior Karen Delaney made a huge jump in the third round, climbing from a tie for 49th to finish tied for 27th. She shot 72 in the final round to post a 16-over 232. Her final round 72 tied for the team's low round of the spring season.
Sophomore Kira Meixner and freshman Kirby Dreher tied for 30th, each shooting a three-round total of 233. Meixner posted rounds of 76-78-79, while Dreher shot 80-73-80. Senior Becky Wood rounded out the Kent State five, tying for 43rd, shooting rounds of 79-76-81 for a 236 total.
