- Kent State University sophomore quarterback Julian Edelman (Redwood City, Calif./College of San Mateo) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today (Sept. 18). Edelman led the Golden Flashes to a 16-14 win at Miami University Saturday, Kent State's first win in Oxford since 1988.
Edelman, a junior-college transfer playing his third game at Kent State, posted career bests for completions and yards, throwing for 244 yards on 14-of-22 passing against the RedHawks. He also added 61 yards rushing on 12 attempts.
The Flashes quarterback accounted for both of Kent State's touchdowns, connecting with senior wide receiver Najah Pruden for 16 yards and the game's opening score, while Edelman also picked up a 1-yard rushing TD in the third quarter.
Edelman completed at least one pass to nine different receivers against Miami, finding Pruden five times for 145 yards including a long-pass of 55 yards. Of Edelman's 30 completions on the year, 14 have gone to Pruden.
With the win, Kent State snapped an 11-game losing streak and the Flashes picked up a win at Miami for just the fifth time. The Golden Flashes are on the road for the third straight game this weekend, playing at Bowling Green, Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m.
