George Jenkins, a 1963 Kent State graduate, exemplifies how a high-quality athletic program can help young people reach their full potential. Jenkins grew up as the son of a coal minernin the small town of Cadiz, Ohio. No one in his family had ever attended college, but his athletic talent provided him with an opportunity to enroll at Kent State. While leading the Golden Flashes as co-captain and quarterback of the football team, Jenkins also excelled in his studies, graduating magna cum laude.
Jenkins went on to graduate with distinction from law school at the University of Michigan in 1966. He served as first Assistant Attorney General of the State of Ohio from 1971 to 1975. He is currently a partner with the Columbus law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, where he focuses on corporate and business law. He has served on the board of directors of ECNext, Inc. and C.P. Technologies, Inc. He is a member of the American, Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations and is a former Kent State University trustee.
Jenkins and his wife, Gina, provided an endowment for the George Jenkins Athletic Academic Resource Center. They live in Columbus, Ohio.
Jenkins' address was titled, “Attributes For Success”.
“Athletics provide you with an opportunity to obtain an education and to learn the attributes you need to be successful in life: discipline, hard work, teamwork, competitiveness, loyalty and tenacity.”
