THE OPENING KICKOFF
Kent State hits the mid-point of the 2007 schedule by welcoming Miami to Dix Stadium for Homecoming. The Flashes hope to stop alternating wins and losses and put together their first winning streak of 2007. The game kicks off a stretch that will see the Flashes play three-of-four at home in October.
Saturday's tilt will be the 55th meeting with the RedHawks, who own a lopsided 43-11 margin in the series, including eight of the last nine in Kent.
Fox Sports Net Ohio will be featuring the Flashes for the second week in a row as KSU will attempt to improve on its1-2 record on television.
FLASH FACTS
• Running back Eugene Jarvis leads the nation with 769 yards rushing and is third with 153.8 yards per game. The reigning MAC East Offensive Player of the Week has recorded at least 100 yards in all five games this year and has scored a pair of touchdowns in four straight contests.
• The versatile Jarvis is tied with wide receiver Shawn Bayes for the team lead with 12 receptions. Bayes paces the Flashes with 187 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
• Defensive back Jack Williams leads the MAC's top-rated defense (34th nationally) with 38 tackles (31 solo), while Monte Simmons has a team-high 2.5 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss.
A glance at the series
Miami leads the all-time series by a 43-11 margin - the second-most losses for the Flashes against any opponent (Bowling Green, 52). The RedHawks have also won 20-of-26 meetings in Kent, including the last two and eight of the last nine. Kent State won last year's meeting in Oxford, 16-14. Julian Edelman passed for a touchdown and ran for another, while the Flashes sacked Mike Kokal six times.
TELEVISION
The game will air live in the state on Fox Sports Net Ohio. Jeff Phelps will handle the play-by-play duties and will be joined by color commentator Jim Hofher in the booth.

• Shane Montgomery (N.C. State '90) has an 11-17 record in his third season in Oxford. After eight seasons as an assistant at Tennessee-Chattanooga (1994-01), he served as Miami's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for four years before being promoted to head coach in December of 2004.
UP NEXT
Kent State travels to fourth-ranked Ohio State next Saturday (Oct. 13) for just its second-ever meeting with the Buckeyes. The game time was set for noon on the Big Ten Network earlier this week. OSU won the only other meeting, 51-17, in Columbus in 2002 during the Buckeyes national championship run. Meanwhile, Miami returns home to host Bowling Green on the same day.
