Golden Flashes Jump Out to 10 Stroke Lead At Windon Memorial Classic

Kent State players record four rounds under 70 on day one
GLENCOE, Ill. - With unseasonably warm tempatures making their way through the Chicago area, the Kent State men's golf team kept the heat going on day one of the Windon Memorial Classic. Playing their best golf of the fall season, the Golden Flashes shot four rounds under 70 and jumped out to a 10 stroke lead at the tournament shooting a nine under, 559 (282-277) at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill.
Leading the way for KSU on the par 71 - 6667 yards course were sophomore David Ludlow (Burton, Ohio / Berkshire) and freshman Jean-Phillipe Paiement (Des Ruisseaux, Quebec) who stand two strokes off the lead in a five way tie for second at three under (139). Ludlow started the day on hole 10 and birdied four holes on his way to an opening round 72. He then rebounded in the afternoon rolling home four more birdies and had no bogies as he equaled a field low round of 67. Paiement, began the day with a one under 70 while making five birdies and closed out with another five birdies for a second round 69.
Freshman Brett Caims (Courtland, Ontario) is in a tie for 11th along with freshman John Hahn (Hudson, Ohio) and three others that are four strokes back at one under (141). Caims stood in third place after a career low round of 68 in which he knocked in five birdies. He then came back for a 73 in round two, including a birdie on hole 13. Hahn made three birdies in his first round 72, but came back with a 69 in the second round with four birdies, including three straight on 13-15.
Rounding out the performers for KSU was senior David Markle (Shelbourne, Ontario / Centre Dufferin) who shot a five over 147 (75-72) and made four birdies on the day.
Kent State leads host Northwestern (285-284 = 569) by 10 strokes and third place Michigan (284-288 = 572) by 15.
A total of 13 teams -- four of which finished the spring 2007 season ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings -- are scheduled to participate in this year's event
The Golden Flashes finish play at the tournament with a single round tomorrow morning.
