KSU Board Of Trustees Approves Name For Golf Center

KENT, Ohio - There were two main driving forces behind making Kent State University's sparkling new $2.2 million golf facility a reality. It's no coincidence then, that at a recent meeting, the KSU Board of Trustees formally approved the complex being named the Ferrara & Page Golf Training & Learning Center.
The Board named Kent State's new, state-of-the-art Center for the family of Kent State alumnus and University Trustee Dr. Emilio Ferrara and for Herb Page, who is in his 30th season heading up the Golden Flashes golf program.
"This training center was made possible with a wonderful lead gift from Dr. Ferrara and his family," KSU Director of Athletics Laing Kennedy said. "I also want to thank Herb for his leadership and to recognize the continued support from the many friends of our program as well as the former student-athletes from both the men's and women's teams.
"This facility will truly enhance our golf program, allowing us to continue to compete at the regional and national level."
"It is very rewarding to be able to give back to my alma mater," said Dr. Ferrara, whose lead trust kicked off the fund raising efforts for the Center. "Herb has been a great friend of mine for many years and I am honored to have my name alongside his on such a beautiful facility."
Officially dedicated on Sept. 15, the Center includes a 350-yard practice range with two sets of tees, bunkers, a short game area and a 10,000-square foot putting green. Inside, the facility is home to three heated hitting stalls featuring a four-camera video room, a 3,000-square foot putting and chipping area, a "Wall of Champions" area, locker rooms, a lounge and study area for the student-athletes and coaches offices.
"I'm honored in two ways," Page said. "First that my name is on the building, and second that its is beside Dr. Ferrara's, who has been a mentor to me for many years. It is a very humbling experience and I'd like to thank all the players who made this possible with all of their success over the years."
One of just a handful of on-campus facilities in the country, the Ferrara & Page Golf Training & Learning Center will allow the Golden Flashes' men's and women's golf programs to remain competitive on a national level by providing a year-round venue in which to practice.
