KSU track team performs well at Kent State Tune-Up Meet

The Kent State track team had several strong performances at the Kent State Tune-Up Track Meet at the Kent State Fieldhouse on Saturday, February 17.

Each of the four throwers on the men's team set personal best in the weight throw as the Golden Flashes prepare for the Mid-American Conference Championships to be held next weekend at the University of Akron.

Senior Andy Nicholas (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania North) finished second overall with a throw of 20.49 meters (67'-2 ¾”). Junior Jaroslaw Zakrzewski (Gdansk, Poland) placed third with a throw of 19.97 meters (65'-6 ¼”). Senior John Harper (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) finished fourth at 18.67 meters (61'-3”). Sophomore Anthony Connor (Columbus, Ohio) placed 10^th with a throw of 15.72 meters (51'-7.00”).

Others who performed well for the Golden Flashes were freshman Curtis Eaton Jr. (Akron,Ohio/Buchtel) and junior Nick Ivancic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) Eaton Jr. ran a sub-22 second 200 meters with a time of 21.92 which placed him second overall. Ivancic won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 36.83.

For the women's team, senior Stephanie Hunt (Alliance, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) set a personal best in the 300 meters with a time of 39.16.

“I was pleased with how we performed today,” said head coach Bill Lawson. “We got some great performances from team members who needed to perform well as a tune-up for the MAC Championships next weekend. I was especially pleased with how our throwers on the men's team did as each one set a personal best. The strong performances by Eaton, Ivancic, and Stephanie Hunt for the women's team bodes well for us entering the conference championships.
