Flashes Finish 15th at General Hackler Championship

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. -- After a final round team score of 301 today (Mar. 12), the Kent State University men's golf team finished in 15th place of 18 teams at the General Jim Hackler Championship presented by Chanticleer Holdings at the TPC of Myrtle Beach. In fourth place after a 2-over 290 opening round, the Golden Flashes slumped to rounds of 300 (+12) and 301 (+13) to finish out the tournament.
Lamar won the team title in with a tournament record 26-under 838, 10 strokes ahead of host Coastal Caro,ina. USC was in third place, three strokes behind the Chanticleers. Kent State's score of 891 (+27) was two shots behind Pepperdine and five beind North Florida and Purdue.
Individually, junior Tom Ballinger tied for 30th place at 3-over 219 (72-74-73), followed by classmate Tommy Wiegand in a tie for 34th place at 4-over 220 (71-73-76). For Ballinger, it marked the second time in three spring tournaments he was Kent State's top individual while Wiegand posted his lowest 54-hole score of the 2006-07 season.
Senior Marc Bourgeois tied for 64th place at 11-over 227 (72-78-77) and freshman David Ludlow tied for 72nd at 12-over 228 (75-75-78). Sophomore Peter Ahn rounded out the KSU scoring in a tie for 92nd at plus-19 235 (82-78-75).
The Golden Flashes return to action Mar. 26-27 at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
