Shawn Bayes Earns MAC Special Teams Player Of The Week Accolades

KENT, Ohio - Kent State junior Shawn Bayes has been named the MAC East Division's Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Golden Flashes' 38-7 victory over Delaware State on Saturday. The honor is the first of the Memphis, Tenn. native's career.
Bayes had Kent State's first kickoff return for a touchdown in more than eight years, racing 95 yards late in the fourth quarter on the only returnable kickoff of the game, as Delaware State executed an on-side kick to open the contest. He also posted 100 yards and a touchdown as a receiver, recording the first two scores of his career. The last Flashes player to return a kickoff back for a touchdown was Shawn Shoemaker against Navy on Sept. 11, 1999.
Kent State returns to action this Saturday (Sept. 22) with a short trip to Akron to face the rival Zips at noon in the Rubber Bowl. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Plus (WEWS in the Cleveland area) and as part of the ESPN GamePlan package nationally.
