FAQ

In 1914, baseball was Kent State University's first intercollegiate team. Lead by coach Alexander Whyte, the Normal Nine competed against other colleges, industrial teams, and high schools. The president of that time, Edward McGilvrey favored baseball over other varsity sports; but it was coach Whyte who drew on the popularity of the sport to create competitive opportunities for men to participate.
