Kent State's men's and women's track and field teams have their final indoor meet before the 2008 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships when the Golden Flashes compete in the Kent State Tune-Up beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday (2/23) at the Kent State Fieldhouse.
Head Coach Bill Lawson knows that the Flashes are getting better with each meet and this weekend offers his squad the opportunity to continue to improve as the conference championships approach. “The Tune-Up is just what it says, a tune-up,” said Lawson. “This is a chance for athletes to work off some of the rough edges. It's a chance to sharpen up before next week's conference championships.”
One of those student-athletes who Lawson is looking to for a top performance this weekend is sophomore pole vaulter Jeremy Brading. “Jeremy has had some approach problems in the pole vault the past couple of weeks,” Lawson said. “He's had some great practices this week. We are looking forward to getting him back in the groove this weekend.”
Lawson believes that at least three Golden Flashes could reach provisional qualifying marks for the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. “J.Z. (senior Jaroslaw Zakrzewski) definitely can make a provisional throw in the men's 35-lb. weight throw,” said Lawson. “Evan Whiting could hit a provisional mark in the shot put. Finally, Jeremy Brading could definitely reach the provisional mark in the pole vault.”
Next weekend,
