Markle Finishes Tied for Sixth, Golden Flashes 13th at the Puerto Rico Classic

PALMER, Puerto Rico Kent State senior David Markle (Shelbourne, Ontario/Hartford) fired a team tournament low 70 in the final round of the Puerto Rico Classic to finish in a four way tie for sixth place. The Golden Flashes carded a 296 in the final round to end the Purdue University hosted tournament in 13th place.
Markle completed the tournament with a four-under 212 shooting rounds of 71-71-70 while making 13 birdies. Sophomore David Ludlow (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire), was next for KSU with a 225 (71-78-76) placing him in a tie for 51st after a final round 76 today.
Freshman Brett Cairns (Courtland, Ontario/Holy Trinity) fired his second straight 73 to gain 10 spots on the field to ended the tournament at 228 (82-73-73) leaving him tied for 60th. Classmates Jean-Phillipe Paiement (Des Ruisseaux, Quebec/Polyvalente St Joseph) and John Hahn (Kent, Ohio/Hudson) were two strokes back at 230, tying them for 64th. Paiement (78-74-78) shot a 78 this morning, while Hahn (74-77-79) ended play with a final round 77 and carded 39 pars for the tournament.
The Golden Flashes led the tournament with 174 pars and totaled an 886 (294-296-296) in the highly competitive tournament that featured four Top-10 teams.
Kent State returns to action on March 23 at the National Invitational Tournament in Arizona.
