If making the NCAA Championships was not enough, finishing well above their national ranking at the tournament will provide plenty of excitement for the Kent State men's golf team. The 27th-ranked Golden Flashes shot a +52 (1204) in the four round event to finish in sixth and just 10 strokes behind National Champion UCLA to be named Kent State Athletes of the Week. It was the highest ever finish for the Kent State men's golf program.
Senior David Markle (Shelburne, Ontario/University of Hartford) ended his KSU career in exciting fashion, finishing tied for ninth individually with a four-day total of 297 (+9). Sophomore David Ludlow (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) finished tied for 23rd with a four day score of +15 (303) while freshman John Hahn finished tied for 33rd with a score of +17 (305).
Rounding out the tournament for the Golden Flashes was freshman Brett Cairns, who finished tied for 43rd (+19, 307) and senior Tom Ballinger (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield St. Peter's), who his career tied for 73rd with a four day total of 317 (+29).
For the second time in three weeks, the men's golf team was named Kent State Athletes of the Week.
