Seven Flashes named to 2008 All-Mid-East Region Outdoor Track and Field Team

Seniors Shamel Smith (Bloomfield, N. J./Bloomfield), Nick Ivancic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), Jaroslaw Zakrzewski (Gdansk, Poland) and John Harper (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) lead a group of seven Kent State track and field student-athletes who were honored for their performances at the 2008 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Mid-East Regionals by being selected to the 2008 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field All-Mid-East Regional Team. Joining that quartet on this year's team for the Golden Flashes are juniors LeVania Henderson (

Smith, a high jumper, finished second at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Mid-East Regionals at the
Ivancic, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in the men's 400 meter hurdles, finished fourth at the 2008 Mid-East Regionals with a time of 51.23.
Zakrzewski, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in the men's hammer throw, finished fifth at the 2008 Mid-East Regionals with a toss of 209'-1”.
Harper finished seventh in the men's discus with his best throw of outdoor season, 183'-00”, at the 2008 Mid-East Regionals. He also placed 30th in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 164'-6” at the same meet.
Henderson, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in the women's shot put, finished fifth at the 2008 Mid-East Regionals with a toss of 53'-7.75”.
Whiting placed seventh overall in the men's shot put with a toss of 57'-6.25” at the 2008 Mid-East Regionals last weekend.
Stoltz, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in the women's javelin, finished fourth at the 2008 Mid-East Regionals with a toss of 158'-11”.
