Men's Golf Headed to Illinois for Windon Memorial Classic This Weekend

The Kent State men's golf returns to the course in Illinois this weekend at the Windon Memorial Classic. The team looks to continue its success at the annual event having finished in the top four each of the past three years.
The course
Hosted by Northwestern, this year's Windon moves back to the Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. The course also hosed the 2006 tournament when the Golden Flashes tied for fourth with a 900 (297-301-302). Skokie features a 7,081 yard, par-71 layout (3,373 (35); 3,708 (36)) and served as a host site for past U.S. Open, Western Open, USGA Senior Amateur and Illinois Amateur championships. The 54 hole tournament consists of 36 holes Sunday and 18 Monday. Starting Times are scheduled for 8:45 a.m. shotgun on Sunday and tee times on Monday beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The 15-team field, is comprised of five squads in the top-25 and eight in the top-40. Most recent GOLFSTAT ratings: No. 8 Tennessee, No. 11 Illinois, No. 19 Michigan, No. 21 Coastal Carolina, No. 25 California, No. 36 Kent State, No. 37 Northwestern, No. 39 Minnesota, No. 58 Indiana, No. 71 UC Davis, No. 72 Eastern Michigan, No. 83 Purdue, No. 87 Old Dominion, No. 94 Tulsa and No. 198 Northern Illinois.

Sunday: Mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the upper 50s and lows in the mid 40s.

KSU at the Windon Memorial
Kent State took fourth at the Windon last season after finishing runner-up to host Northwestern by a stroke the year before. The Golden Flashes have finished fourth or higher the last four times they have played in the event.
KSU Line-Up
Brett Cairns, John Hahn, Mackenzie Hughes, Kevin Miller, Nathan Tarter.
The veteran trio of Cairns, Hahn and Hughes will be joined All-Ohio freshmen, Miller and Tarter who are making their KSU debuts this weekend.
Carins is averaging 73.3 per round through the first two events this season. The two-time MAC Golfer of the Year, Hahn, has gotten off to a slow start this fall having yet to score a round of par or better. He is averaging 75.2 per round this season.
The reigning MAC Golfer of the Week, Hughes has proven to be the Golden Flashes most consistent performer this year earning two top 20 finishes in as many events. He tied for 12th overall last week at the PING/Golfweek Preview with a six-over 222 (76-72-74) and leads the team with a 73.2 stoke average.
