Head Coach Jim Andrassy:
On Senior Night:
“We only have two matches left. I thought it was a great event with our seniors. To come out and have four of our seniors wrestle and Sponseller win when he has not wrestled in a while is good. It was good for the people in attendance, it was good for them and it was good for their parents. It shows these guys are doing the right thing. Some of these guys, it took a long time to get in our lineup, but they are doing the right things, which is good.”
On Ross Tice's match at 157:
“Ross Tice has good matches and bad matches. We will take it for what it is, look at it on video, and we'll figure what went wrong and why. You have to be able to get away in this sport, especially at this level. You cannot get ridden out and expect to win. That is what happened, he got ridden out. Look at Chris Estep (at 174). You look at both those matches, they lost because they couldn't get away.”
On going into the final stretch of the regular season:
“I am excited about it. I think our guys are feeling good that we are going to get some rest after the Central Michigan match (Feb. 19). We push through our matches better than Ohio does and we score points. That is what we are going to have to do against Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. We have to wrestle better than we did tonight to get the win. I like what we are going to Michigan with.”
On Drew Lashaway's win at 141 over a guy who gave him two very close matches last year:
“Drew is a little sick right now. He probably should not have wrestled but I told him 'Its senior night. This is it, this is your last home match. Do you want to sit out your last home match?' He wanted to wrestle. He probably should have been on the sidelines or at home in bed right now but, ultimately, he came out and he fought through it tonight. My comment to him was 'You could be at the national tournament and you could be sick.' You got to be able to wrestle when you are sick and he did a good job today.”
Jermail Porter
On his match at 285:
“I was trying to score as many points as I could to try and get a tech because that was my goal. I came close but my goal was to get the tech.”
On getting takedowns and not just trying to ride the guy out:
“That is maturity if anything. I am learning to prepare myself for the national tournament. I want to get takedowns and score points instead of riding the guy out. If anything that is maturity.”
Eric Chine
On his overtime match at 197:
“I didn't wrestle the best in that match that I thought I could have. After the match went into double overtime, I was pretty confident that I would be able to get away. I felt I could hold (OU's Christopher Iammarino) for 30 seconds. When he started to get up, I was almost nervous because I couldn't drop down to a leg so I held on and I lifted him up. When I brought him down, I felt pretty good because I won my last match here at the MAC Center.
On his fourth overtime match of the year:
“I would have liked to win by more but a wins a win.”
