Kent State's track and field team begins the 2009 outdoor schedule on the road at a pair of meets this weekend. Most of the squad will compete at the 2009 Weems Baskin Relays at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday (3/28). The remainder of the team will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to compete at the 2009 Reebok Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University on Friday (3/27) and Saturday (3/28).
KSU has spent most of this week training at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in preparation for this weekend's competition. “This is an opportunity for us to enjoy training outdoors in warmer weather,” said Kent State Head Coach Bill Lawson.
Lawson added that this weekend is important for the Golden Flashes. “We can compete against very good teams and begin the transition from the indoor to the outdoor season.” said Lawson. “This is the first step in us building and improving as we prepare for the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships.”
Kent State's men's team won the first MAC Indoor Track Championship in school history earlier this month. The women's team, finished second overall at the same meet, which was the best finish for the Golden Flashes since 2003.
