Hahn Wins His First Individual Title
GRASONVILLE, Md. - The Kent State men's golf team had little trouble navigating its way through Prospect Bay Country Club this weekend by winning the 11th Annual Towson Invitational Golf Tournament by 25 strokes. The Golden Flashes shot an 11-under 853 (285-283-285) for the 54-hole event led by sophomore John Hahn (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) who claimed individual medalist honors for the first time in his career.
A unanimous selection for the Mid-American Conference Golfer and Freshman of the year last season, Hahn won the tournament by two strokes over teammates Nick Latimer (Brooklyn, Ohio / Brooklyn) and Mackenzie Hughes (Dundas, Ontario (Highland Secondary) as the Golden Flashes had four golfers earn top five finishes.
“We played really well all weekend and just dominated, said Head Coach Herb Page, “It was a team effort throughout. With it being spring break we were able to spend a little extra time practicing all week and it paid off for us in a big way.”
After four career runner-ups, Hahn finally broke through for his first victory after shooting a five-under par 211 (68-73-70). Right behind him were Latimer and Hughes who both claimed career best finishes as well. A senior, Latimer has lowered his 54-hole total in each of his last four tournaments. This weekend he shot a career low three-under 213 (71-71-71) with three straight rounds under par. Hughes also carded a 213 (73-70-70) for a career low 54-hole score himself while earning his first top 10 finish.
Junior David Ludlow (Burton, Ohio / Berkshire) tied for fifth overall and behind a second round 70 posted a one-over 217 to earn his third career top five finish. Completing the KSU line-up this weekend, sophomore Brett Cairns (Courtland, Ontario) tied for 12th with a five over 221 (73-72-76).
