Julian Edelman Selected In Seventh Round By Patriots

Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman was selected by the New England Patriots with the 23rd pick of the seventh round of the NFL Draft Sunday evening. The 223rd pick overall, Edelman is the 38th player to be drafted in KSU history, including the third in the last three years.
This past year as a senior, Edelman broke Josh Cribbs' school record with 3,190 total yards. The Redwood City, Calif., native rushed for 1,370 yards the second-highest total in school history while throwing for an additional 1,820 yards. He accounted for 26 total touchdowns, 13 on the ground and 13 through the air. He also punted four times, served as the personal protector on the punt team and served as the punt returner the last two games of the season.
Edelman is projected to play wide receiver and contribute on special teams in the NFL. Patriots defensive coordinator Dean Pees was the head coach of the Golden Flashes from 1998-03.
