With the 2010 Varsity "K" Athletics Hall of Fame Centennial Induction Ceremony set for Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom, we took a minute to catch up with each of the eight inductees.
1.) What is your fondest memory of Kent State?
Helping the team to a 6-5 record in 2001.
2.) What do you miss the most about being in college?
Spending time with teammates.
3.) Who has had the biggest impact on your career?
Dick LeBeau from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
4.) Are there any parts of college football that are better than playing in the NFL?
Not really. The competition and money are better in the NFL.
5.) Take us back to your interception return in the Super Bowl, what was going through your head as you were running towards the end zone?
You have to read my book to get that answer.
6.) You've been a two-time Super Bowl Champion, AP defensive player of the year and two-time All Pro selection. Did you ever envision your professional career being this successful?
No one ever plans on having all of those things happen, but I always thought I'd be successful. Through hard work I have made it to the level that nobody really thought was possible.
7.) What are the benefits being a celebrity? Are there any negative aspects?
The positives and negatives are the same: people know who you are.
8.) You've been cut four times in your career. What kind of an effect did that have on you?
I didn't let it effect me. I never gave up and was confident in my ability.
9.) If there was one person that you wish could be at the ceremony, but they can't, who would it be and why?
My grandma was someone special in my life and she never got to see what I turned out to be.
10.) What does it mean to you to be a member of the Varsity "K" Athletics Hall of Fame?
Very humbled to be in the company of great athletes. It's humbling, rewarding and motivating.
