Shuster and Tice Named to Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Kent State's Mallie Shuster (157) and Ross Tice (165) were both recently named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Wrestling Team. Shuster and Tice helped the Golden Flashes finish 15-4 in dual meets, while excelling in the classroom.
Tice, a redshirt sophomore, carries a 3.32 cumulative grade point average as an education major. Now a two-time academic all-conference selection, Tice finished second at the Mid-American Conference Championships and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. He was fourth on the team with 28 victories, going 23-9 in tournament competition. Tice placed third at both the Oklahoma Gold and Body Bar tournaments.
Shuster, a redshirt freshman, carries a 3.59 GPA as a photo illustration major. Last month, he was named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week. Shuster went 24-13 on the season and 13-6 in dual meets. He tallied four pins and six major decisions. He placed third at the Body Bar, fourth at the Oklahoma Gold and seventh at the Southern Scuffle.
KSU was one of four teams to have more than one wrestler named to the Academic All-MAC Team.
The Golden Flashes were ranked No. 16 in the final NWCA Coaches Poll and finished second at the 2010 MAC Championships.
