CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Five Kent State players were named to the All-Mid-American Conference baseball team, released Tuesday night (May 25) at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio, site of the 2010 MAC Baseball Tournament.
Senior outfielder Anthony Gallas (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) was the lone Kent State representative on the first team. Gallas finished the regular season with eighth-highest batting average in the conference at .381 while leading in MAC games, hitting at a scorching .446 clip. He also led the league in both RBI's (77) and doubles (22) while finishing second in total bases (163) home runs (17), third in hits (88) and sixth in runs scored (60).
In his final regular season game at Akron (May 22), he collected his 200th run to become the first conference player to collect more than 250 hits, 200 runs scored and 200 RBI's for his career.
Four different Flashes were named Second Team All-MAC for the second consecutive year. Both redshirt junior Robert Sabo (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) and sophomore David Starn (Hudson, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) were named starting pitchers on the second team squad. Sabo finished the year 5-4 and was 10th in the MAC with a 4.32 ERA. He also finished fourth in the conference with fellow second-team member Starn with 66 strikeouts. Starn led the team and was second in the conference with a 7-2 record.
Finally, sophomore infielder Travis Shaw (Washington Court House) and freshman Evan Campbell (Beloit, Ohio/West Branch) round out the Kent State contingent on the second team. Shaw finished the season with a .320 average and finished second on the team with 17 home runs.
