Carnes Named First Team Academic All-District IV

KENT, Ohio - Kent State's Andrew Carnes' collegiate career may have concluded this past weekend at the 2010 NCAA East Regional, but he is still receiving recognition for his academic achievements. Announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday (June 3), Carnes was named First Team Academic All-District IV.
During the outdoor track and field season, Carnes was one of two Mid-American Conference track athletes (the other being senior teammate Aiman Scullion) to break the 30-minute mark in the 10,000 meters with a time of 29:51.28 at the All-Ohio Championships. He also took second with a time of 30:10.90 after leading the majority of the race in the 10k at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
During the indoor season, he ran the third-fastest time in the conference in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:29.57 at the Meyo Invitational. At the MAC Indoor Championships, he took sixth in the 5k with a time of 14:47.13.
Carnes, who has a 4.0 grade point average as a graduate student in exercise physiology, was also named to the 2010 Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC team.
