Humes, Jones Reap MAC Postseason Accolades

KENT, Ohio - Kent State women's basketball standouts Jamilah Humes (Saginaw, Mich.) and Taisja Jones (Dallas, Texas) were honored Tuesday (March 9) by the Mid-American Conference for their excellence on the court this season. Humes garnered first-team all-MAC honors while Jones was selected as a third-team all-MAC performer.

Humes, a 5-8 junior guard, has been a versatile player for head coach Bob Lindsay this season. Humes is nationally ranked in six statistical categories, including steals (48th, 2.6 spg), assists (129th, 3.9 apg), field goal percentage (91st, 46.2 pct.) and scoring (184th, 14.4 ppg). In all but one game this season, Humes has led the Golden Flashes in either scoring, rebounding, assists or steals. For her career, Humes is fast approaching the 1,000-point plateau, as she is 15 points away from reaching the milestone.

Jones, a 6-0 junior forward, stepped into a scoring role for the Golden Flashes in her first season at Kent State. She currently leads KSU in scoring (14.9 ppg), which is ninth-best in the MAC and 150th in the NCAA. Over a 21-game span, Jones reached the 20-point plateau 11 times. She also leads the MAC in made free throws (146), which is the eighth-best season mark in team history.

Kent State begins postseason play Wednesday, March 10 when the No. 3 seed Golden Flashes take on No. 6 seed Central Michigan in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 MAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is tenatively slated for 2 p.m. and can be listened to live in the Kent/Akron area on Sports Radio 1350AM.
