Incoming Freshmen Zoller Rises To 16th In The Nation

Freshman to be recently won the Carolina-Georgia Junior
KENT, Ohio – Incoming Kent State freshmen Taylor Zoller (Charleston, S.C. / Fort Dorchester H.S.) has been rated as the 16th best boys golfer in the country in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings system.
With five events to his credit, Zoller has a 70.78 rating in the system and has compiled a 9-1-1 record against the top 50 and a 30-2-1 mark against the top 100 players ranked.
The son of former Kent State All-American, Karl Zoller, Taylor is most recently coming off a win at the Carolina-Georgia Junior Jan. 16-17. The 60-man event which comprised of the top amateur golfers in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia was won by Zoller with a four-under, 140. He shot rounds of 72 and 68, which included a run of three birdies in his final six holes.
One of only three players named to the 2010 All-Carolinas Boys' Team, Zoller won the 2010 SC Big I Junior qualifier among his 13 top 20 finishes in 16 events on the junior circuit last year. He also tied for second at the Joe Cheves Junior with rounds of 72-67 and tied for third at the Bobby Chapman Invitational shooting 72-69. While playing for Fort Dorchester, Zoller earned All-Tournament honors at the 2010 Capitol Classic where he finished second with a 145 (73-72).
Zoller is one of three freshmen joining the Golden flashes program in the fall. Charlie Phillips (Mt. Vernon, Ohio / Mt. Vernon) and Nick Scott (Union, Ohio/Northmont) are also part of the incoming class of 2011 for Kent State finished 20th at the NCAA Championship last season and are currently ranked 36th in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings system.
The Golden Flashes return to action on March 7-8th at the Louisiana Classics hosted by Louisiana Lafayette.
